Ledee

Ledee and David Dellucci were born three weeks apart in 1973. Both are left-handed hitters. Both are fine corner outfielders who are stretched in center. Ledee has a 795 OPS in 575 AB against right-handers over the last three years. Dellucci has a 782 OPS in 683 AB against right-handers while playing in better parks for hitters. There probably aren’t two more similar free agents, but Ledee is likely to get a one-year contract for less money than Dellucci will average in a two-year deal. He’s easily the better signing.

Ledee, the Phillies’ fourth outfielder, is day-to-day.

This is all true, and the Phillies were facing tough righthanders, but Ledee doesn’t make those starts if Bowa is happy with Pat Burrell. Ledee hadn’t started since July 4 and has no value.

Ledee, who is recovering from hemorrhoid surgery, will likely be activated off the disabled list before Thursday’s game.

Ledee was supposed to be in the clubhouse Monday but couldn’t make it because of discomfort. We sure don’t blame him. He’s eligible to come off the DL in another week.

Too many good left-handed hitters are riding the pine for the Dodgers. It’s still the hamstring injury preventing Ledee from playing regularly against right-handers right now.

Ledee was used as as a pinch-hitter. Because of the hamstring, he’ll be day-to-day to start for the rest of the season.

''We’ve got a chance to do something good here,’' Ledee said of the Dodgers. ''I don’t want to miss any games. Hopefully over time it will go away forever, or at least until the end of the season. Then I’ll deal with it.’'
