Bolaños was released last month by the Royals and has found a new opportunity with the Marlins. The 26-year-old righty provides Miami with some extra organizational relief depth. He’s made 18 appearances (five starts) in the majors since 2019.

Bolaños has been jettisoned to make room for lefty Kris Bubic to be summoned Saturday for a spot start against the Astros. The 25-year-old righty reliever has recorded a pedestrian 4.42 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 12/12 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings (eight appearances) this season.

Bolaños rejoins the Royals after a stint on the COVID-19 injured list. The 25-year-old right-hander has produced a 2.81 ERA with an 11/10 K/BB ratio across 16 innings.

It’s not clear whether he tested positive. Bolaños has a 2.81 ERA in long relief this season.

Bolanos will jump into the Royals’ bullpen for Thursday’s series finale against the Twins. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a 1.42 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings for Kansas City last season.

Bolaños went down in mid-June with a right flexor strain. He’s already been pitching in the minors over the past month and will remain in Triple-A now that he’s back to full health.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Anthony Swarzark. Bolanos is out indefinitely with a flexor strain.
