Cubs signed RHP Tommy Romero to a minor league contract.
Romero was a highly-touted pitching prospect a couple years ago in the Rays’ system, but didn’t have any success at the highest level. The 27-year-old righty last appeared in the majors back in 2022 when he made four appearances (two starts) between the Rays and Nationals. He’s merely extra organizational starting pitching depth and a true reclamation project at this stage of his career.

The Giants optioned OF Wade Meckler to Triple-A Sacramento; reassigned LHP Carson Whisenhunt, RHP Tommy Romero, INF Donovan Walton, OFs Trenton Brooks and Yoshi Tsutsugo to minor league camp.
Meckler had an outside chance at making the club’s 27-man Opening Day roster, but he still showed promise during his time at spring camp. In his 13 games, the 23-year-old slashed .423/.483/.577 with two doubles, one triple and nine RBI. He’ll continue to develop at the Triple-A level where he posted a .965 OPS across 24 games last season. Whisenhunt is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and figures to make an impact for fantasy managers down the road.

Tommy Romero allowed six runs over 1 2/3 innings on Sunday in a Cactus League start against the Mariners.
Romero served up a solo homer to Jorge Polanco in the first inning. Ty France would follow with a base hit to drive in a run. Two walks and a base hit in the second inning loaded the bases before Polanco got to Romero once again, launching a grand slam. Romero would record one more out before he was replaced on the mound. The 26-year-old right-hander was a long shot to make the Opening Day roster, and Sunday’s performance certainly didn’t help his cause.

Giants signed RHP Tommy Romero to a minor league contract.
Romero represents a fascinating reclamation project for the Giants as he was universally-regarded as one of the more promising pitching prospects in baseball just a few years ago with Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old righty, who spent all of last year at Triple-A Rochester in the Nationals’ system, hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2022. He’ll presumably get a shot to compete in spring training for a spot on San Francisco’s season-opening roster.

Nationals reassigned LHP’s Evan Lee, Francisco Perez and Alberto Baldonado, RHP Tommy Romero, INF’s Lucius Fox, Erick Mejia and OF’s Yasel Antuna and Donovan Casey to minor league camp.
The Nationals first round of cuts from spring training includes several depth relievers, and a useful utility infielder in Lucius Fox, but no major surprises.

Nationals re-signed RHP Tommy Romero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Romero made his MLB debut with the Rays in 2022 and wound up surrendering 12 runs -- 10 earned -- over his first 8 1/3 major league innings between Tampa Bay and Washington. The 25-year-old will presumably be vying for a bullpen job with the Nats in the spring.

    Nationals non-tendered RHP Tommy Romero.
Romero was already designated for assignment this week, but now he’s officially a free agent. The 25-year-old somehow gave up seven home runs in 8 1/3 innings in the majors this season between the Nationals and the Rays.

Nationals designated RHP Tommy Romero for assignment.
The Nationals needed to clear up a few spots on their 40-man roster on Tuesday afternoon and it looks like Romero drew the short straw this time around. The 25-year-old hurler posted a 10.80 ERA and 2.40 WHIP over 8 1/3 innings between the Rays and Nationals during the 2022 season.

Nationals returned RHP Tommy Romero to Triple-A Rochester.
Romero was rocked in his start against the Phillies in Saturday’s doubleheader and was quickly sent back to Triple-A. This should conclude the 25-year-old season and he will look to stick around with the rebuilding Nationals next spring.

Tommy Romero threw 91 pitches but lasted only 3 2/3 innings while giving up six earned runs in a loss to the Phillies Saturday.
This was Romero’s first start in the majors since being acquired by the Nationals on August 25 after he was designated for assignment by the Rays. The 25-year-old coughed up five homers while walking four and striking out two across 3 2/3 innings of work.
