The man who finished second in last year’s Honda Indy Toronto will have a surprise opportunity to go one better in this year’s race.

Italian Luca Filippi will return to the No. 19 Dale Coyne Racing Honda at least for Toronto. The car will be carrying primary sponsorship on his car from IMPCO Technologies, a global leader in the Alternative Fuels and Idle Reduction Technology headquartered in Santa Ana, California.

Filippi ran the opening four races of the season through Barber Motorsports Park before Gabby Chaves came into the entry starting with the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Chaves was good in the month of May but has been delayed in recent races with a number of penalties assessed. He’s only achieved a best finish of 12th.

This then means that a Dale Coyne Racing car will be back to the semi-standard “TBA” for the remainder of the season.

For Filippi, who was second in Toronto last year then with CFH Racing after making the Firestone Fast Six last year, and also started sixth with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2014, it’s a natural return.

“I’m very excited to be back with Dale Coyne Racing this weekend and to have the chance to race in the Honda Indy Toronto again,” Filippi said in a release. “I want to thank IMPCO Technologies, the ComfortPro team and Dale Coyne for giving me this opportunity. It’s one of my favorite races, not just because I finished on the podium in Toronto last year, but because it’s one of the best events on the schedule and I love to race on street circuits. I can’t wait to get back on track.”

“We’re extremely pleased to be present at this year’s Honda Indy Toronto,” added Bruno Balocco, General Manager of IMPCO Technologies. “Dale Coyne Racing, Luca Filippi and the IndyCar Series offer us the perfect platform to bring additional visibility to our company and to our newly released Electric Auxiliary Power Unit, ComfortPro E. We’ve sponsored Luca in the past and are thrilled to continue that association with him for our home event. He’s had success there before and we hope he can do even better this year.”
