The Century Poll - a monthly poll of 100 NASCAR insiders - posed the question of who is the best road course racer among active NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers.

The result wasn’t close.

Jeff Gordon was selected on 49 of the 100 ballots. Next was AJ Allmendinger, who was on 22 ballots. They were followed by Tony Stewart (12 votes), Kurt Busch (six) and Kyle Busch (four).

Gordon heads into Sunday’s race at Sonoma Raceway with a series-record nine wins on road courses. He has five wins at Sonoma Raceway and has placed third or better in 13 of his 22 starts at Sonoma.

Allmendinger won last year’s race at Watkins Glen International, the most recent road course race. Stewart has seven career road course wins with five at Watkins Glen and two at Sonoma.

Others receiving votes were: Carl Edwards (three), Kevin Harvick (two), Jimmie Johnson (one) and Jamie McMurray (one).
