The Mavericks and Knicks are among those interested in signing free-agent center Elden Campbell.
Campbell, coming off a disappointing, injury-plagued season, still could help a team in a limited role. He’ll probably be a backup.
  • An illness limited Elden Campbell to five minutes on Sunday.
    He’s day-to-day.
  • The Nets have a lot of interest in Elden Campbell, but they’ll likely have to claim him on waivers to get him.
Once the waiver period ends, Campbell could choose where he goes, and isn’t likely to pick New Jersey. Claiming him off waivers would put the Nets on the hook for roughly $2.3 million.
  • Elden Campbell has decided to report to New Jersey. He’s expected tomorrow.
Campbell had hinted about retiring, since his desire was to return to the Pistons after being waived by the Jazz. His presence will help the Nets, but the fantasy impact will be to leech value from Nenad Krstic and the other big men.
  • The Jazz are expected to release newly-acquired Elden Campbell this weekend to free up a roster spot for Andrei Kirilenko.
The Pistons are hoping Campbell will clear waivers and they will be able to re-sign him, similar to what they did with Lindsey Hunter last season, when he was traded to Boston and released.
  • The Jazz hope to resolve Elden Campbell’s status today by reaching an agreement on how much of a discount he will give on his $4.4 million salary in exchange for his release.
He’d then be free to sign with another team, and it’s believed the Pistons want to bring him back. Utah will activate Jarron Collins once Campbell’s situation is resolved.
  • Elden Campbell has averaged just 13 minutes in the last four games, primarily because of foul trouble.
Campbell is frustrated with what he says are bad calls going against him, but coach Larry Brown has another way of looking at it: ''I usually think that when big guys foul, it’s just conditioning, to be honest with you. I think you have to respect the fact that guys have been in the league a long time. But, if he wants to stay in the league a lot longer, we might have to raise the bar for him a little bit.’'
  • Elden Campbell suffered an injured big toe on his right foot Wednesday.
He practiced and is expected to be ready tonight.
  • Coach Larry Brown admits he plans to make a lineup or rotation change, but wouldn’t specify whether that meant Zeljko Rebraca would start over Elden Campbell, or if the third guard would be Chucky Atkins or Bobby Sura, or whether Corliss Williamson is the eighth man or ninth man.
“I don’t know if I will ever be comfortable knowing guys are killing themselves for me and I’m not playing them,” Brown said. “But in fairness to these guys, I’ve got to cut our rotation down and give the guys we decide to play an opportunity to play and become a team.” It would appear that Mehmet Okur’s value is taking the biggest hit as Brown tries to sort things out.
  • Elden Campbell has left the team to attend his grandmother’s funeral.
He is expected back for Saturday’s game. The Pistons are considering activating Zeljko Rebraca while Campbell is gone.
