Derrick White (neck) and Jrue Holiday (shoulder) are out against the Hornets on Sunday.
There’s nothing on the line for the Celtics on Sunday, as they have already secured the two-seed in the Eastern Conference. White and Holiday will get the day off to rest for the playoffs. Payton Pritchard will figure prominently in the Celtics’ rotation, as should JD Davison and Jordan Walsh. Pritchard is the available Celtic best-equipped to blow up offensively on Sunday.
  • BOS Point Guard #20
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Celtics have converted two-way G JD Davison to a standard contract.
Davison was drafted 53rd overall in 2022 and has been with Boston his entire career, though he has spent most of his time with their G League affiliate in Maine. He has made 15 appearances in the NBA this season and will likely play a significant role in the regular season finale on Sunday. The 22-year-old will remain with the Celtics on a standard deal heading into next season, but he will likely spend most of his time in Maine once again.
  • BOS Point Guard #20
The Celtics announced on Monday that they have signed JD Davison to a two-way contract.
Davison has spent two seasons with the Celtics, appearing in 20 games (eight in 2023-24). With Boston’s backcourt rotation remaining intact after winning an NBA title this season, he’s unlikely to crack the rotation in 2024-25. However, he’ll look to change that when he plays with the Celtics’ summer league team in Las Vegas.
  • BOS Point Guard #20
JD Davison (left ankle sprain) has been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Hornets.
Davison remaining sidelined will not impact fantasy basketball, as he is not in the rotation when healthy.
  • BOS Shooting Guard #44
Jaden Springer (left knee tendinopathy) and JD Davison (left ankle sprain) have been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Pelicans.
Their individual absences won’t have any impact on the team’s rotation, but they were the only players on the injury report, which means that Boston should be at full strength this weekend.
  • BOS Point Guard #20
JD Davison played 32 minutes in Saturday’s 99-88 loss to Miami, finishing with 14 points (5-of-14 FGs, 3-of-5 FTs), four rebounds, 11 assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer.
While Davison did also rack up five turnovers, overall he did a good job of running the team while on the court. And that’s where he’ll need to show signs of progress after seeing the majority of his playing time last season in the G League. Boston doesn’t lack guards, even after Marcus Smart was traded to the Grizzlies, which will make it difficult for a player like Davison to crack the rotation. However, he took a step in the right direction on Saturday.
  • WAS Point Guard #15
Malcolm Brogdon (lower back pain) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Hawks.
There’s nothing on the line for the Celtics in Sunday’s regular-season finale, so Brogdon joins the long list of players ruled out. JD Davison should play plenty, even with Derrick White getting the start. White’s playing so he can appear in all 82 games; don’t be surprised if he gives a foul after the open tip and gets subbed out.

  • BOS Shooting Guard #64
Juhann Begarin kept his foot on the gas in a loss to the Nets on Saturday, posting a line of 25 points (9-of-17 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), seven rebounds, three assists, three swipes, three 3-pointers and three turnovers in 35 minutes.
Begarin came in averaging 16.5 points on 39.7% shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 dimes, 1.5 steals, 0.5 blocks, 1.0 triple and 4.5 turnovers per game in four SL appearances, which is promising, but he clearly still has some issues in a few areas. Begarin most recently played in France and is now fighting for a roster spot somewhere in the league, so he’ll more than likely be a non-factor in the vast majority of fantasy leagues. Mfiondu Kabengele was next up in scoring for Boston with 18 points with a nice all-around effort inclusive of a steal, four blocks and two triples, and JD Davison had another fantastic showing with a 17/6/10 line, but the Celtics are coming off a Finals berth and already know who’s going to be playing heavy minutes on opening night.

  • BOS Point Guard #20
JD Davison finished Thursday’s 108-91 win over the Grizzlies with 28 points (9-of-14 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs), five rebounds, 10 assists, three steals, one blocked shot, and four 3-pointers in 33 minutes.
What a day for Davison, who is expected to compete with Brodric Thomas for a roster spot throughout the summer and training camp. Running the show for Boston, the second-round pick out of Alabama did a very good job of handling the balancing act of scoring and getting others involved. The Celtics don’t lack established guards, which could make things difficult for Davison concerning earning a full roster spot. However, if he can finish Summer League on a positive note this weekend, that would set the stage for Davison once training camp rolls around.

  • BOS Point Guard #20
Rookie JD Davison and Brodric Thomas “are expected to compete” for a full roster spot this summer and in training camp, according to Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
Davison, an athletic guard who was selected with the 53rd overall pick in last month’s draft, is expected to sign his two-way contract soon. However, he may not be limited to two-way status according to Weiss. Davison and Thomas, who played sparingly after joining the Celtics last season and is also on a two-way contract, will compete for a full contract throughout Summer League and training camp in the fall. This competition is unlikely to have an impact as far as fantasy basketball is concerned, as Davison and Thomas are stuck behind a serious logjam on the perimeter.
