Who needs a solid backup point guard?

C.J. Watson, who played for the Nets last season and is a six-year NBA veteran, is going to opt out and become a free agent this summer, reports Peter Vecsey. This is not a real surprise, he was set to make $1.1 million next season and likely can do better on the open market.

Watson averaged 19 minutes a game off the bench for the Nets last season, averaging 6.8 points on 41.9 percent shooting (41 percent from three) and 2 assists per game. He’s a solid backup point in the NBA.

This also leaves the Nets looking for a new backup point guard, one who comes on a minimum salary but ideally could play with Deron Williams, too, when they want to go small.

Of course, the Nets need to get a coach first then we can talk backup point guards.
