Celtics guard Marcus Smart fined $35K for outburst after loss to Nets (video)

Marcus Smart lingered on the court to argue with referees after the Celtics’ loss to the Nets on Tuesday. Then, Smart heatedly pointed his finger and yelled at an official. Then, Smart was restrained by multiple people.

As the incident escalated, it became increasingly clear where it’d lead – this fine.

NBA release:

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has been fined $35,000 for confronting and verbally abusing the game officials, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred at the conclusion of the Celtics’ 129-120 OT loss to the Brooklyn Nets on March 3 ... The amount of Smart’s fine also reflects his multiple prior violations of acceptable on-court decorum.

Smart is highly emotional. That’s part of what makes him such a good player. He also sometimes struggles to turn down his intensity.
