Pero Antic played the role of a stretch four for the Hawks last season, shooting 32.7 percent from three-point distance on 171 attempts.

But it was banging inside during Thursday’s practice that caused the 6'11" power forward to suffer a broken nose which required surgery.

From Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Antic, sporting two black eyes while sitting out practice, took an elbow during a training camp practice Thursday.

According to coach Mike Budenholzer, Antic had the surgical procedure Friday and will be fitted for a protective mask. He will be held out of contact for several days. The surgery was performed at Northside Hospital performed by Dr. Joseph Williams.

“He is going with the beat-up boxer look,” Budenholzer said.

Antic won’t play in Monday’s preseason opener against New Orleans.

The Hawks will also be without Al Horford and Kent Bazemore for that one, while DeMarre Carroll’s status is uncertain after suffering an ankle injury during Saturday’s practice.
