DeMarcus Cousins will be a free agent in two years. He could hit the trade market even sooner.

Are the Mavericks trying to make inroads?

Dallas signed DeMarcus’ younger brother, Jaleel Cousins.

The Mavericks have one opening on the 20-man offseason roster after waiving Jameel Warney, but if they were serious about Jaleel making the 15-man regular-season roster, they would have signed him sooner.

Jaleel went undrafted out of South Florida, where the 6-foot-11 center averaged 8.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 25.0 minutes per game as a senior. He’s likely headed to the D-League.

And maybe, just maybe, he’ll help Dallas build a connection with the Cousins family.
