The Miami Heat needed to fill out their roster. And they’ve certainly done so decently. Today, our own Ira Winderman clues us in that the Heat have re-signed veteran wing and three-point specialist James Jones.
Jones is a three point dagger man, but after re-signing with the Heat two years ago, he’s been largely marginal. He needs spacing in order to hit from deep, and the Heat don’t have the weapons to create that space. But with the Big 3? There’s going to be oceans between him and rotating defenders.
What’s most notable is the contract structure James is accepting. He’s taking a $1.9 million buyout for the remaining year of his contract, then signing for the veteran’s minimum. He’s saving the Heat a considerable amount of money in order to compete for a championship. That seems to be the running theme for this Heat team.
After all the questions after LeBron James’ announcement about as supporting cast, suddenly the Heat have a cupboard full of veteran range shooters. The hits just keep on coming.
