It seemed last season that the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t have a ton of love for Kevin Love. This season his play demanded it.

But before the Wolves caught on, there were teams that recognized what the Wolves had and they coveted it.

Nuggets coach George Karl said Wednesday that Denver called Minnesota about Kevin Love’s availability last summer. Obviously, no deal was done, but there were discussions. Karl would not talk about other players’ names who came up in the talks.

The Nuggets certainly could have used Love along their depleted front line at the start of this season. And 29 other teams could have used Love’s outlet passes.

There are hundreds of these kinds of conversations that go on around the NBA in the summer. This one is a nice reminder why Denver is a quality franchise — management that recognizes undervalued talent and goes after it.
