The Clippers could be in the market for a backup point guard.

They got solid play out of Darren Collison — particularly the 35 games he started with Chris Paul out — but he has decided to opt out of the last year of his deal for just less than $2 million, reports Arash Markazi of ESPNLosAngeles.com. This confirms what Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reported several weeks ago.

Collison will look at the free agent market but would prefer to re-sign with the Clippers, according to the report.

Collison averaged 11.4 points a game, had a 57.5% true shooting percentage and played well pretty much all season.

Collison is not going to get a huge raise, but what he can likely get at age 26 is the security of multiple years.

He will be on the free agent market with a number of other point guards. The biggest names are Eric Bledsoe (restricted) and Kyle Lowry, but Collison will be more in the mix with Isaiah Thomas (restricted), Shaun Livingston, Patty Mills, Mario Chalmers and Steve Blake.
