The Celtics-Pacers game last night was cancelled and won’t be made up in light of the bombings at the Boston Marathon. According to STATS:
this the first time in NBA history that not every team has played the same number of games.
The Washington Capitols folded in January of the 1950-51 season, when the NBA was so unstable, the same news report about the Capitols folding relayed a Madison Square Garden executive threatening to ban pro basketball from the arena.
Anyway, the Capitols quit their season with just a 10-25 record. Their leading scorer, Bill Sharman, was picked in a dispersal draft by the Fort Wayne Pistons (who later traded the future Hall of Famer to Boston), and the NBA season continued.
Besides the Capitols not playing the same number of games as the rest of the league, not every team had played Washington the same number of times. So, other teams finished with between 66 and 69 games.
