Tyson Chandler isn’t buying ‘Melo scoring less this season

Carmelo Anthony is not just going to be a scorer anymore. He’s changed. It’s about team and trust and distributing the rock. That’s what he’s saying, anyway.

“I’m done trying to score 35, 40 points to win the basketball game. I don’t want that role anymore”

Tyson Chandler isn’t. From the Wall Street Journal.

“That’s not going to happen,” Chandler said before he went down with a knee injury in Wednesday’s game. “He has an instinct that only a few players have in this league. His ability to score isn’t a switch you can just turn off. So I expect him to be the same player.”

To start the season, the Knicks are going to need the old shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later Anthony. Amare Stoudemire is out and Chandler is day-to-day and the Knicks need to find offense. While Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith will be there, the offense is running through Carmelo for the first week or so, with him playing more at the four.

The question is which Carmelo Anthony will we see when everyone is healthy?

As ‘Melo is entering his 10th NBA season, I tend to think Chandler is right. He’s not changing now. No matter what he says.
