Panthers rookie TE Brandon Williams will be sidelined until training camp after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
An undrafted free agent and former college basketball player, Williams was more of a practice-squad than 53-man roster candidate to begin with. The knee scope will further decrease Williams’ odds of landing a job behind Greg Olsen.

Panthers declared TE Brandon Williams, CB D.J. Moore, CB Josh Norman, S Quintin Mikell, LB Ben Jacobs, DE Frank Alexander, and DT Dwan Edwards inactive for Week 5 against the Cardinals.
Carolina is mostly healthy coming off of its Week 4 bye.
  • IND Tight End #85
Free agent TE Brandon Williams will visit the Colts.
Williams logged 149 snaps as the Seahawks’ third-string tight end last season. The Colts are looking for depth behind Jack Doyle after trading Dwayne Allen to the Patriots. The 29-year-old has caught just six passes over four NFL seasons.
  • IND Tight End #85
Colts signed TE Brandon Williams, formerly of the Seahawks.
Going on 30, the 2012 UDFA appeared in all 16 games as the No. 3 tight end for the Seahawks last season. In Indy, he’ll be a body behind Jack Doyle and Erik Swoope. Williams has six career catches.
  • IND Tight End #85
ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton identified second-year TE Brandon Williams as a player that “stood out” at minicamp and OTAs.
A second-year UDFA out of Oregon, Williams played only 28 snaps his rookie year, but Newton believes his role will expand this season. Williams is a physical freak, standing 6'4/250 with sub-4.6 40 wheels. In order to earn playing time with Greg Olsen in two-tight end sets, Williams only has to overtake underwhelming Ed Dickson. 26-year-old Williams is a super-deep sleeper.
  • IND Tight End #85
Brandon Williams of the Panthers earned Pro Football Focus’ highest grade among tight ends in the first week of preseason.
A former college basketball player, Williams has been an intriguing deep sleeper for awhile, particularly on a Panthers team that wants to utilize two tight ends. The 26-year-old played a whopping 58 snaps in Carolina’s preseason opener, drawing elite blocking marks from PFF and producing a 3-50-1 line on six targets in the passing game. He stands 6-foot-3, 248 with 4.56 timed speed.
  • IND Tight End #85
Panthers TE Brandon Williams (groin surgery) has resumed practicing fully.
Williams has been activated from the active/PUP list after undergoing a “minor” groin operation in June. With Kelvin Benjamin out for the year, the Panthers are expected to incorporate more two-tight end sets. 27-year-old Williams is a player to watch to see if he can put any heat on Ed Dickson for snaps.
  • IND Tight End #85
Panthers TE Brandon Williams (groin surgery) will be limited when training camp opens next week.
Williams underwent a minor procedure in June and is expected back for the second week of camp. It’s a note for preseason DFS players to file away. Williams, a former college basketball player and athletic freak, logged a heavy 58 snaps in last year’s exhibition opener and produced 3-50-1. Be sure he’s healthy before using him this year.
  • IND Tight End #85
    Dolphins waived TE Brandon Williams.
Williams played in four games, but didn’t make an impact. He’ll likely be re-signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
  • IND Tight End #85
    Dolphins re-signed TE Brandon Williams.
Williams was waived just three days ago. This time around, Miami has waived/injured DL Robert Thomas and waived S Jordan Kovacs.
