Colts GM Bill Polian let some of the air out of the Dominic Rhodes balloon.
“We didn’t discuss it. Tony [Dungy] didn’t mention it. I think we’re pretty full at the position to be truthful with you,” Polian said. Positive news for those early drafting dynasty leaguers who have already selected Mike Hart.

Kenton Keith and DeDe Dorsey are considered the early favorites to replace Dominic Rhodes as Joseph Addai’s backfield mate.
The Colts will continue to use a two-back committee this season. Keith, a relative of former 49ers great Roger Craig, was a star in the CFL before catching on with Indianapolis. We still think it’s very possible the Colts sign a veteran like Chris Brown or even Stephen Davis to upgrade the competition.
  • DET Running Back
DeDe Dorsey has yet to claim the clear-cut No. 2 RB job in Indianapolis.
Undrafted rookie Clifton Dawson has impressed in camp and Kenton Keith has more experience, albeit in the CFL. Dorsey only gained 15 yards on six carries in the preseason opener. It’s beginning to look like Joseph Addai will be the lone workhorse in the Colts’ backfield this season.

Colts RB Kenton Keith underwent an MRI on his ankle Friday afternoon.
The results are unknown. Keith, who is competing for the backup job, has been bothered by the ankle while participating at camp.
  • FA Running Back #29
Colts coach Tony Dungy indicated Monday that Joseph Addai (shoulder) and Marvin Harrison (knee) could’ve played Sunday if it’d been a playoff game.
Harrison and Addai both seem likely to be back after the Week 6 bye. Dungy added that he had “conversations with Joseph” all week, but opted to declare him inactive as a precaution. The Colts will take on Jacksonville in Week 7.
  • HOU Running Back
Colts RB Clifton Dawson has reportedly been the “surprise of camp.”
Dawson, who went undrafted out of Harvard due to speed and size concerns, has shown good quickness and excelled in pass protection. It appears Dawson is ahead of Kenton Keith to be Indianapolis’ No. 3 halfback.
  • FA Running Back #29
Colts officials indicated Friday that Joseph Addai’s “bruised shoulder” is similar to an injury he dealt with last season.
Addai played in every game as a rookie, including all four playoff wins. “He got hit on that shoulder and got that bruise,” coach Tony Dungy said. “It’s really more in the chest now. (Addai) says it’s better than what it was in the playoffs. But obviously the playoffs was a do-or-die situation.” Addai remains a game-time decision for Week 5. Be prepared with other options.
  • IND Wide Receiver
The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts will likely err on the side of caution this week regarding “questionable” players Marvin Harrison (knee strain), Bob Sanders (ribs), and Joseph Addai (shoulder/chest).
The 4-0 Colts may be looking at their upcoming bye in Week 6 as a means to get their best players healthy. “If they feel good mentally, (they) will go,” coach Tony Dungy said after practice Friday. “But the other guys have practiced all week and if there’s any doubt, we’ll go with the guys who have practiced.”
  • FA Running Back #29
Joseph Addai (shoulder) missed practice Thursday.
Addai’s availability for Sunday’s afternoon tilt with Tampa Bay remains in question. “Tomorrow’s probably the day we’ll decide,” coach Tony Dungy said. Kenton Keith should be owned in all leagues for the time being.
  • IND Running Back
Coach Tony Dungy said Tuesday that the Colts “are developing more and more confidence” in Kenton Keith and “want to get him in there.”
Keith and Joseph Addai split carries Monday night and it sounds like the Colts plan to continue that going forward. “Joseph missing the week before may have had a little something to do with it but more and more I think having those guys go and keeping those guys fresh is going to be good for our running game,” Dungy said. The news is bad for Addai, but makes Keith a potential RB3/Flex option.
