The 49ers have a lot to accomplish after the lockout ends, but don’t expect them to spend crazy money in free agency to do so.
“We’re not going to be major players. From a philosophical standpoint, we’re not going to be major players in free agency,” G.M. Trent Baalke told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News Thursday.
Baalke envisions building the team through the draft, making the right free agent value purchase or two, and re-signing the right players. Of all of San Francisco’s free agents this year, Baalke admitted Dashon Goldson will be the team’s biggest priority to bring back.
“I think that’s fair to say,” Baalke said.
Also look for them to make bringing back center David Baas a priority. At quarterback, Baalke says he is open to bringing in a solid veteran if the right one comes along. (At the right price.)
“If we can add a player to this team that’s going to make us better, we’re going to do it,” Baalke said.
