No matter whether it’s Shaun Hill or Sam Bradford, the quarterback who hands it to Adrian Peterson Sunday will be the 12th starter he’s taken handoffs from with the Vikings.
So the way he looks it, his job stays the same in the wake of the season-ending injury to Teddy Bridgewater.
“Unfortunately, it’s a different type of situation that [Teddy] got hurt,” Peterson said, via Ben Goessling of ESPN.com. “But that doesn’t change what you bring to the game and what you do as an individual player and how you contribute to the offense.”
After last week’s preseason game (before Bradford arrived) Peterson said he took it upon himself to pick up the slack.
“To be honest with you, I always look at it as, I carry my load,” Peterson said last week. “Shaun will do a great job for us, and I have confidence in him and what he is able to do in the passing game. I feel like we will have a balanced offense.”
Of course, it hasn’t really been balanced, unless you think about the year Brett Favre got him his only playoff win. They thought that was changing before Bridgewater’s injury, but Peterson said it didn’t change his outlook.
“We have an opportunity,” he said. “It is very unfortunate to have the [Bridgewater] injury happen. It takes a team to win a championship, so we are still chasing the same thing.”
They’re just chasing it in a far different way than they planned, even if it’s a way that’s all too familiar to the 31-year-old running back.
