Adrian Wilson spent 12 years playing safety for the Cardinals, making a name for himself in the NFL and earning a special place in the history of the organization.

That special place is a spot in the team’s Ring of Honor and Wilson will join that body this season. The Cardinals announced Monday that Wilson will be honored during halftime of the team’s Week Three home matchup against the 49ers.

Wilson joined the Cardinals as a third-round pick in 2001 and spent a year as a backup before spending the next 11 years as a fixture in the team’s starting defense. He finished his career in Arizona with 893 tackles, 27 interceptions, 25.5 sacks and 14 forced fumbles. Those numbers helped Wilson earn five Pro Bowl berths and a spot on the Associated Press All-Pro team after the 2009 season.

Wilson last played for Arizona in 2012, spent 2013 on injured reserve with the Patriots and failed to make the Bears out of camp last summer. He’s the 15th player to join the Cardinals’ Ring of Honor and was at the team’s offseason workouts as part of what Darren Urban of the team’s website indicates will be an ongoing role with the club.
