The Falcons’ first touchdown in Sunday’s game vs. Chicago came from a player for whom touchdown-scoring has become a calling card.
Yes, tailback Antone Smith did it again, taking a short swing pass and sprinting away for a 41-yard touchdown, thus cutting the Bears’ lead to 13-10 early in the third quarter. The Falcons have since knotted the game at 13 on Matt Bryant’s 54-yard field goal with 6:19 left in the period.
Smith now has five touchdowns in 23 offensive touches this season. The Falcons, perhaps knowing a good thing when they see it, have given him a season-high six touches on offense thus far vs. Chicago.
Finally, on the ensuing kickoff after his touchdown, Smith made the tackle on kickoff coverage.
