Chicago Bears defensive end Alex Brown says he’d like a new linemate in 2010: Green Bay Packers defensive end Aaron Kampman.
Brown said he’s not counting on the Bears re-signing free agent defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, and that Kampman would be a good replacement for him.
“I would love to have Wale back, but I’m not sure if they’re going to go that road,” Brown said, per the Chicago Tribune. “If not, Aaron Kampman would be pretty darn good. He plays hard and he plays with heart.”
Kampman is a free agent, and the Packers have indicated that they will offer him a contract, but he won’t be a priority. Kampman suffered a torn ACL in November and might not be fully recovered by the start of the season, so he likely won’t be able to command a big contract.
For the Bears, defensive end is a priority because Ogunleye is likely to leave and because of the death of Gaines Adams.
