The NFL might want to consider letting Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning hold onto the AFC offensive player of the week award indefinitely.
For the second time in the first three weeks of the season, the league has bestowed the honor on Manning in recognition of his performance against the Raiders in Denver’s 37-21 victory on Monday night. It is also the 25th time that Manning has received conference offensive honors over the course of his career, more than anyone else in history.
Manning set a personal and franchise best by connecting on 32-of-37 passes for a completion percentage of 86.5 against Oakland. He threw for 374 yards on those passes, marking the sixth time in NFL history that a player has thrown for at least 350 yards while completing more than 85 percent of his passes.
Manning also threw three touchdown passes, a drop from the seven he threw to win the weekly honors in the first week of the season. They were still enough to give him 12 touchdowns on the year, the most in history for a player in the first three weeks of a season.
Manning will try to make it three in four weeks against the Eagles on Sunday.
