With C.J. Spiller out for the season and Fred Jackson sidelined for the time being, the Bills are giving tailback Anthony Dixon the start Sunday against the Jets, the club said this morning.
A fifth-year pro from Mississippi State, Dixon made one start in four seasons for San Francisco (2010-2013). He joined the Bills in the offseason. Dixon (6-1, 233) rushed for 51 yards on 13 carries in last Sunday’s win vs. Minnesota.
Dixon starts ahead of third-year pro Bryce Brown, who also figures to see action for visiting Buffalo (4-3).
Jackson (groin) is one of the club’s inactives for Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium. He had already been ruled out.
According to the Bills, it has been 1,485 days since a back other than Spiller or Jackson started at tailback for the club.
