The Bears have added a third tight end to the roster, promoting rookie Blake Annen from the practice squad on Saturday.
Annen fills the roster spot of offensive guard Matt Slauson, who was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle.
The moves were disclosed in the NFL’s transactions.
The Bears’ addition of Annen comes with top tight end Martellus Bennett questionable for Sunday night’s matchup at Green Bay with injured ribs. If Bennett were out or limited, Annen (6-4, 247) would give the Bears another option in two-TE sets. The Bears also have veteran tight end Dante Rosario on the roster.
A Cincinnati product, the 23-year-old Annen signed with the Eagles in May. He appeared in three preseason games with Philadelphia before being waived on August 23. The Bears signed him to the practice squad on September 17.
As a senior, Annen caught 16 passes for 183 yards and two TDs for the Bearcats (11.4 ypc).
