Bills call Rex Ryan’s introduction of Donald Trump a “personal decision”

Yes, Bills coach Rex Ryan will be introducing presidential candidate Donald Trump at a Monday night rally. No, Ryan won’t be doing so in his capacity as coach of the Bills.

“It is a personal decision by Rex to introduce Donald Trump at this evening’s rally,” the Bills said in a statement issued Monday, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. “The Bills organization does not endorse political candidates and so he is not representing the organization at tonight’s event.”

Bills ownership has done plenty of endorsing over the years, via large political contributions. As reported by the Buffalo News in 2014, Terry and Kim Pegula had given at least $940,000 over 10 years to various candidates, most of whom were Republican.

It’s believed that the Republican establishment doesn’t support Trump, which means that perhaps the Pegulas don’t support Trump, who once tried to buy the Bills and who said after his bid failed, “The people of Buffalo should be happy Terry Pegula got the team but I hope he does better w/the Bills than he has w/the Sabres. Good luck!”

Ryan is the one who may now need good luck when trying to explain why he is supporting a guy who once took a gratuitous shot at his boss.

The only good news for Ryan is that he finally has something in common with Tom Brady.
