Giants running back Brandon Jacobs says his old teammate Tiki Barber won’t just try to return to the NFL in 2011. He’ll make a team and be a real contributor.
“I thought it was absolutely phenomenal that he decided to come back,” Jacobs told the New York Post. “I thought it was good for him and I think he can still play, because he wasn’t one to take a lot of big hits, and the type of game he played, I think he can be out for four years and be able to jump in and do it.”
As we noted today, Jacobs was among those who showed up at the Giants’ facility, where players were allowed not just to walk in but to work out. Jacobs hasn’t always been friendly with the media, but today he took some time out to talk to reporters, and he was eager to sing the praises of Barber, the man Jacobs backed up in his first two NFL seasons.
“As soon as he gets that first big hit, I think he’ll be fine,” Jacobs said. “He’s probably gonna get back up to 200, 205, and at that playing weight I have all the faith in the world he’s gonna be able to come back and do this. . . . I spoke to him, I’ve seen him twice . . . he’s excited about doing it.”
