Brandon Marshall’s Twitter beef with Lions fan creates another distraction for Bears

Marshall

As the Chicago Bears try to turn the page on a couple of historic blowout losses, they spent part of Friday dealing with receiver Brandon Marshall’s Twitter back-and-forth with a Lions fan whom Marshall challenged to a fight.

Via John Mullin of CSNChicago.com, Marshall criticized the media for making too big a deal of Marshall’s exchange with the fan, which may or may not have resulted in an agreement that the two will indeed stage a boxing match.

“I want to blow this thing even bigger,” Marshall said, despite his annoyance with the media for giving it attention. “I want to launch a campaign of anti-bullying . . . not a campaign like we’re going to start an organization. We’re going to have an event. And we’re going to have a nice ring. And have it at my ring. And get some gloves. And we’re going to get maybe Showtime.”

Coach Marc Trestman is concerned more about the “showtime” that comes on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET against the Vikings.

“We’re focused on beating Minnesota, and I think all of us are into doing that,” Trestman said. “I don’t want to make this anything more than what it was – it was a response on social media. It wasn’t anybody’s preparation or anybody’s work ethic out on the football field.”

Maybe the Bears will do better against their opponents if they fight instead of play football. Based on recent games, the Bears can’t do much worse.
