C.J. Stroud will “keep letting it fly” after three interceptions Sunday

Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud threw two interceptions in his first nine NFL starts, but that number jumped up in Sunday’s 21-16 win over the Cardinals.

Stroud threw an interception in the first half and then threw two more on back-to-back drives in the fourth quarter to give the Cardinals chances to pull out a late comeback win in Houston. The Texans defense did not allow that to happen and Stroud, who was 27-of-37 for 336 yards and two touchdowns, cited a basketball star as an example of why the miscues aren’t going to stop him from putting the ball in the air.

“Man, Steph Curry don’t ever stop shooting,” Stroud said, via the team’s website. “I’m going to keep letting it ride. And I’ve got no shame in my game. I’ve definitely got to be smarter. No confidence is taken away from me. I’m going to keep letting it fly.”

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said “you’re going to have miscues and bad plays but it’s all about how you respond to those plays.” Stroud’s response will come against the Jaguars in a Week 12 game that will decide who is leading the AFC South heading into the final month of 2023.
