Checking in on Albert Haynesworth

We grew so accustomed to writing daily about Albert Haynesworth that we’ve started to miss the big fella since he passed his conditioning test.

So what’s been going on with the highest paid backup nose tackle in NFL history?

Well, nothing much. That’s a good thing. Haynesworth has quietly practiced all week and took starter snaps on Wednesday when Maake Kemoeatu missed practice. Even though Haynesworth is learning nose tackle now, the Washington Post expects him to start at defensive end once he adjusts his game a bit.

“We don’t want him to spin, we don’t want him to do ‘o-lay’ blocks, we want him to play with more power,” defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said. “The guy’s a very, very powerful guy, and I think he needs to use more power in his game. I think that’ll make him a better football player.”

Haynesworth will suit up on Friday for the team’s preseason opener, a clear indication that he’s on the right track. Things are going so smoothly we may not have to write another post about him for a while.
