Linebacker Andy Mulumba had to leave the U.S. in February because his work visa expired and the Packers didn’t tender him as a restricted free agent.
That limited his ability to visit with teams as he looked for a new job, but Mulumba set up a couple last week and has found a spot for the 2016 season. Mulumba, who was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and moved to Canada at 12, has signed with the Chiefs.
Mulumba’s agent Tom Tafelski told ESPN.com that his client signed a one-year deal and that the Chiefs will work with Mulumba as he tries to get U.S. citizenship. He also visited with the Patriots before signing in Kansas City.
Mulumba played 22 games for the Packers over three seasons and has 35 tackles and a sack over that period. He played six games last year after recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2014 season after two games. His best path to a roster spot in September will likely be as a special teamer.
