Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty got away without a penalty for a hit on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean it was legal in the eyes of the league office.
The NFL has confirmed that Canty was fined $15,750 for roughing the passer because he struck Romo with the crown of his helmet after Romo threw a pass in Sunday’s game.
The fact that Canty wasn’t flagged on the play indicates that the referee missed a penalty that should have been 15 yards and an automatic first down for the Cowboys, in a game the Giants would end up winning 29-24.
Canty had a big game against Romo, sacking him once and hitting him after he passed three times. But one of those hits should have been flagged.
