Defensive end Chris Clemons rejoined the Jaguars this week after skipping all of the voluntary portions of the offseason schedule and explained that working out on his own is “the way I get in my zone.”
That zone for Clemons this year includes dropping 17 pounds from last year’s playing weight, something that Clemons believes will help him fulfill his vow to be more productive than he was while picking up eight sacks in his first season with the Jaguars.
“We had a 3-13 record last year, so it was hard to see what guys really, really, really had,” Clemons said, via ESPN.com. “This year, I look for it to be different. I was able to concentrate on myself more this offseason than I was last season coming from the Super Bowl [as a member of the Seahawks]. It’s going to be a different Chris Clemons than you saw last year. It’s going to be the same guy, but the productivity is going to be up a whole lot more than it was last year.”
The Jaguars could certainly use a boost in productivity from Clemons. Sen’Derrick Marks, who led the team in sacks last year, is coming back from a torn ACL and first-round pick Dante Fowler suffered the same injury during rookie minicamp, which could leave the Jaguars without many pass rushing options other than Clemons once the regular season gets underway.
