The Cowboys played it safe with quarterback Tony Romo’s injury on Christmas Eve, but there doesn’t seem to be any doubt that he’ll play next week.

The team says Romo didn’t break any bones in his hand, just blood vessels. The team has a week to get the swelling down in his hand.

“I’ll be fine,” Romo said via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I think I just took a hit to the helmet. We’re going to be all right, though. I’ll be good to go next week.”

Romo initially returned to the sidelines with his helmet on and wanted to get back in the game. After Jerry Jones came down from his box suite to discuss the situation with coaches, the team kept Romo on the sidelines. The team also sat Felix Jones after the first quarter.

“You have to step back and understand what the situation is,” coach Jason Garrett said. “We need to be as healthy as we can be going into next week’s game.

Jones expressed little concern Romo would be ready to face the Giants in a division winner take all game.

“We have every reason [to think he’ll be OK],” Jones said. “Our people have encouraged us, and he has a history of playing with something that the doctors will let him go on. I feel like we dodged a bullet.”
