Patriots receiver and punt returner Danny Amendola committed an ugly cheap shot that easily could have drawn an ejection in the second quarter of today’s game against the Chiefs.

With Kansas City punting and Amendola back to return deep in Patriots territory, Amendola stepped aside as if he was going to let the ball roll into the end zone. As Chiefs defensive back Jamell Fleming came downfield to down the punt, Amendola delivered a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit.

Amendola was called for unnecessary roughness, although with the foul occurring at the 4-yard line and the penalty half the distance to the goal line, it was only a two-yard penalty. Amendola is lucky he wasn’t ejected, especially just days after the NFL made a big show of suspending Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict for three games after a hit to the head of Steelers receiver Antonio Brown.

Amendola will surely face discipline from the NFL this week.
