Though teams are doing no business when it comes to their players, they can still transact business as to their non-players. The Steelers have transacted some business today, with their chief P.R. employee making his exit.
Here’s the full text of the release: “The Steelers announced today that Communications Coordinator Dave Lockett has left the team. Lockett, who held the position since 2005, has left the Steelers to pursue other opportunities. Effective immediately, Public Relations/Media Manager Burt Lauten will serve as the team’s interim Communications Coordinator.”
And all that that potentially implies.
We don’t know why Lockett left, but short, snippy press releases expressing no appreciation for his services and whipping out the ultra-generic “pursue other opportunities” excuse usually are employed when the employment ended in a not-so-pleasant manner.
As to Lockett and the Steelers, it sure looks like one of the various bridges over the Ohio, Monongahela, and/or Allegheny have been burned.
I’ve met Dave several times, and he has always been helpful and cooperative. We thank him for making our job a little easier, and we wish him well in the future.
