There’s little doubt that rookie running back David Wilson was the biggest star of the Giants’ 52-27 win over the Saints in Week 14.

And now there’s no doubt that he’s the NFC special teams player of the week as a result. The NFL made the announcement on Wednesday, honoring Wilson for a day that saw him pile up 327 all-purpose yards.

Wilson returned a kickoff 97 yards for the first Giants touchdown of the day and had a couple of other huge returns that set the Giants up with prime field position. He also ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns as part of an effort that marked the first-round pick’s best day as a professional.

According to Randall Liu of the NFL, Wilson’s 227 kick return yards are the most ever in a game by a player who also ran for 100 yards. With Ahmad Bradshaw nicked up by various injuries and Andre Brown sidelined by a broken leg, the Giants will likely be turning to Wilson more and more in the coming weeks. The Saints game was a pretty resounding vote of confidence about that plan.
