Before free agency officially unofficially opened, the Cowboys did a nice job of getting the word out that running back DeMarco Murray would bring any non-offer offers that he receives during the three-day negotiating window back for the Cowboys to match, or at least come close to matching.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Murray is willing to move on for a better opportunity, if that better opportunity presents itself.
Murray realizes the importance of the decision, and he plans to take his time and be methodical in his thought processes. While that may seem odd at a time when teams and agents are doing deals before visits are even taken, Murray’s approach is the smart one.
He’s the top free-agent running back available, and he’s not really competing with any other tailback hitting the market. So he can wait and see how things play out without seeing his market drop.
If anything, his market may increase -- especially if Adrian Peterson ends up with a new deal that pays him $20 million or more in 2015.
