Dez Bryant insists he’s not “a me, me, me guy”

Dallas Cowboys COO and Executive Vice President Stephen Jones explains how the team built its strong offensive line, whether or not Ezekiel Elliott will hit a rookie wall and how the team is managing its quarterbacks.

One of the few arguments that remain for playing quarterback Tony Romo when he comes back is that it would make better use of Dez Bryant, the very expensive receiver whose numbers aren’t what they used to be with rookie Dak Prescott on the field.

But Bryant, who has never been accused of humility, said he’s simply happy with the winning.

I feel like I’ve been misunderstood for so long,” Bryant said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “But people can think whatever they want to think. I know who I am."First off, I wasn’t even supposed to be in the league right now according to a lot of people, but I’m here. A lot of people try to say I’m

“First off, I wasn’t even supposed to be in the league right now according to a lot of people, but I’m here. A lot of people try to say I’m a me, me, me guy. I’ve never been. That’s not how I was taught. . . . “Because of who I am as a person. Who I am. I feel like I’m a great person. I do. I care about people. I genuinely care about people. I like to see people do good. I’ve been around a lot of hate in my life. That’s something I try my best to eliminate every day.”

He missed three games with injuries earlier this year, but has just two 100-yard games this season, and was targeted just once in last week’s win over the Browns.

“How many big games [statistically] have I had and we lost?” he said. “And I said, ‘It’s not about that. I don’t care. We didn’t win.’ Same thing, if we winning and I’m not getting it, that’s OK.

“I know my time is going to come. When it comes, it’s going to be big.”

Bryant’s willingness to be a decoy has helped Prescott learn to spread the ball around, and the broad-based approach to offense has worked so far. And as long as the team’s winning, he’s happy, because he’s not “a me, me, me guy,” of course.
