Dolphins sign back off Eagles practice squad, cut Jonas Gray
LaMike James isn’t the only running back getting dropped by the Dolphins roster on Monday.
The Dolphins confirmed that James has been waived on Monday afternoon and also announced that Jonas Gray has been cut from the 53-man roster. Gray was elevated from the practice squad late last week, but did not play in Sunday’s win over the Redskins.
Gray could wind up back on Miami’s practice squad if he clears waivers, which may be a good bet after he went unclaimed when waived by the Patriots at the cut to 53 players.
The Dolphins will be bolstering their backfield by signing running back Raheem Mostert off of the Eagles practice squad, according to his agent Brett Tessler. Mostert led the league in yards from scrimmage in the preseason and was an excellent kickoff returner at Purdue, which may be the role he’s ticketed for with the Dolphins.
Miami also announced that center Sam Brenner, called up from the practice squad with Gray, has been waived. They promoted tight end Jake Stoneburner from the practice squad and re-signed guard Jacques McClendon. McClendon was released when Brenner was promoted, which suggests the move was made to avoid guaranteeing McClendon’s salary as required for vested veterans on the Week One roster.
