Tim Tebow is going to be at Eagles offseason workouts, but guard Evan Mathis isn’t going to be there to show him around the team’s facility.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday morning that Mathis will not be joining his teammates as the conditioning portion of the offseason schedule gets underway on Monday.

It’s the second straight year that Mathis’s attendance has been a source of intrigue. He was the subject of trade rumors last year and there was speculation he’d skip voluntary work because he wanted a new contract, but Mathis wound up taking part in the offseason program and reported to camp on time before turning in another strong season when he wasn’t out of the lineup with a knee injury.

Trade rumors have cropped up again this offseason with the Eagles reportedly considering cutting Mathis if they don’t swing a deal with another team. Mathis kept his tongue firmly in his cheek while explaining to McLane where he was while his teammates were gathering to start their work.

“I’m in Antarctica looking for frozen dinosaurs to extract their DNA and splice them with my chihuahuasaur,” Mathis said.

Mathis is set to make $5.5 million this season and $6 million in 2016 in the final two years of a five-year pact Mathis signed with the Eagles in 2012.
