The Falcons filled an open roster spot with a defensive end on Monday, signing rookie Sam Meredith, the club announced.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Meredith played collegiately at San Diego State, recording 26 tackles (2.5 for loss) and one sack in 2014. He garnered honorable mention all-Mountain West honors in 2012, but he was hampered by a shoulder labrum injury at times the next season.

Meredith is one of six defensive ends on the Falcons’ roster and the lone rookie at the position, which could give him an opportunity to stick on the practice squad — or perhaps even the roster — if he can show promise.
