Falcons safety William Moore is the latest NFL player to say the league is going too far in cracking down on physical football.
Moore told reporters today that he was fined $22,050 for a hit on Cardinals receiver Jaron Brown in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Moore says all he was doing is what defensive players are supposed to do.
“I don’t know if I even have a voice in it. All I can do is appeal it,” Moore said, via ESPN. “Do I disagree? Yes. Do I dislike it? Yes. I don’t feel like that was a fine. But I would like for us to be able to play real football.”
Early this season, Moore said he was changing the way he hits to comply with the NFL’s emphasis on player safety -- and to avoid a repeat of last year, when he was fined nearly $75,000 for multiple violations. But Moore still wants to be a physical football player. And he doesn’t think the NFL is letting him do that.
