Harris, Demps still battling for starting job

We heard last week that rookie Macho Harris, a converted cornerback who was picked in round five of the 2009 draft, was giving presumed starting free safety Quintin Demps a run for his money on the first team.

“They love his playmaking ability,” a league source told us regarding Harris.

Brian Seltzer of ESPN 950 in Philly reports that Harris was getting the first-team reps in practice on Monday, as the Eagles prepare to open the season with a trip to Charlotte.

But Seltzer points out that, even though Harris got the first-team reps, Demps could still start the game.

For now, the on-line depth chart shows that Demps is the first-stringer.

But the depth chart also shows Demps as the starting kickoff returner, and Seltzer says that Demps says the job will pass to Ellis Hobbs.
