Indy will make a play for Super Bowl LII

SuperBowl

The next four Super Bowls will be played in New York (OK, New Jersey), Arizona, San Francisco (OK, Santa Clara), and Houston.

The next Super Bowl that hasn’t been awarded will be played in early 2018. According to the Indianapolis Star (via SportsBusiness Daily), the Indianapolis will announce on Friday its intent to pursue the game.

The first, and only, Super Bowl played in Indianapolis drew rave reviews, thanks in large part to the absence of snow, ice, sleet, or sub-zero temperatures. Local residents were helpful and genuinely thrilled to host the event, and the layout of the city is conducive to staging the game and the days of activities preceding it.

Other cities that could submit a letter of intent by the deadline of midnight today include, via the Star and IBJ.com, New Orleans, Dallas, Miami, Minneapolis, and Tampa. Denver already has announced it will submit a bid for the game.

With the NFL opting to play a Super Bowl in New York (OK, New Jersey), more locations will be tempted to pursue the game. Which will increase competition for the game. Which will drive up the quality of the bids. Which will result in more money for the NFL.

The experience in New York (OK, New Jersey) will have a huge impact on the league’s willingness to play open-air games in cold-weather cities. Apparently, the Farmers’ Almanac recently has made a dire prediction.

We’ve yet to learn the results generated by a Ouija Board.
