The Jaguars clearly want to upgrade their running back position, based on their pursuit of DeMarco Murray.

And even though they pick third, that’s too high to take any of the running backs in this year’s class. But they also pick 36th, and that’s where things could get interesting.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Jaguars had Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon in yesterday, and Georgia running back Todd Gurley in today.

Between the perceived devaluation of the position as a whole, and questions about the condition of Gurley’s knee, there’s an outside chance one of the two could be there when the Jags pick near the top of the second round.

While that’s far from a certainty (both of them getting out of the 20s seems dubious), making sure they have background on both is the prudent play, and enables General Manager Dave Caldwell to have the information he needs if one or both falls into his lap.
