J.D. Walton throws down signature on rookie deal

The Broncos have moved away Mike Shanahan’s zone blocking concepts and now need the right pieces for a power blocking unit.

Enter third-round pick J.D. Walton, who signed a four-year contract on Thursday. Our old buddy Aaron Wilson writes Walton received a $798,500 signing bonus on a contract worth $2.588 million.

Walton lined up as a starter during minicamps partly because of injuries around him, but we suspect he’ll be in the starting lineup in Week One. He was the second center selected in April.

To make room for Walton, Denver waived Jaron Baston and designated Kyle Eckel waived/injured.
