Protecting an expensive luxury item is part of Jonathan Martin’s day job.

But the 49ers offensive tackle kept it up during the offseason, breaking up a robbery at a Versace store in Los Angeles.

Martin initially tweeted about stopping a man trying to run from the store, then told Yahoo Sports it was just a reaction.

I didn’t even think,” Martin said. “I just reacted. It wasn’t till later when [my friend] said, ‘He could have had a gun.’ I didn’t even think about it. I just wanted to help.

“It took maybe 30 seconds. It all happened so fast you don’t really think about it. You just sort of react.”

Martin started nine games for the 49ers last year, bouncing back nicely after his less-than-memorable start with the Dolphins.

And if it doesn’t work out in football, he clearly has a future as a mall cop.
