Tight end Julius Thomas was one of the biggest additions to the Jaguars roster during the offseason, but a finger injury that required surgery has kept him off the field since the team’s first preseason game.
That absence has come to an end. Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports that Thomas has been cleared to return to practice in a limited fashion this week. Thomas still has a cast on to protect his injury, so he’ll only be working in individual drills but any work he does now should put him in better position to be back to a full workload once the cast does come off.
When will that be? At the time he went in for surgery, Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said that Week Four looked like a realistic return date for the tight end, although O’Halloran notes there are “still hurdles” he’ll have to clear to get back in the lineup by that point.
The Jaguars didn’t complete any passes to their tight ends in the season opening 20-9 loss to the Panthers.
